Otsego Club Ski Season Update
OTSEGO CLUB MEMBER ANNOUNCEMENT
September 27, 2012
We are pleased to announce that we have finalized our agreement with Osprey Recreational Properties, LLC, for the long-term lease (with option to purchase) of the Otsego Club. It has been an uncertain few months concerning the future of the Otsego Club, and we thank you for your patience throughout this process. Your support and commitment to the continued operation and success of the Otsego Club has been the underlying motivation in making this happen! As many of you know, it is our intention to continue to operate the Otsego Club as a four-season ski and golf resort. We plan to keep the Club as a private ski club, with emphasis on the family ski and snowboard experience. Otsego Club has always been, and will continue to be, Michigan’s premier four-season ski and golf recreation resort.
The Otsego Club’s future and success relies heavily on membership participation. The Club will continue to use its current membership structure. Members can anticipate an increase in dues (approximately 10% across all membership levels) to account for rising operating costs. Within the next few weeks, you will be receiving your membership dues statement, which will outline the various membership level options (i.e. Alpine, Silver, Gold, Senior, etc.). At that time, we urge you to please respond in a timely manner to renew your membership. It is the members’ participation that will make the 2012-2013 ski season successful.
As long-time members, we have paid close attention to your comments and concerns. During the coming ski seasons, we will enhance the value of your membership by improving the ski and snowboard experience, increasing discounts for dues-paying members, improving food and beverage services, and responding in a timely manner to your concerns and feedback. There has been much speculation with respect to the status of the ski lifts. At this time, we are diligently completing all of the necessary repairs, maintenance and safety inspections to ensure proper and safe lift operations for the 2012-2013 ski season. Our number one priority is you – the member. We will strive to make your satisfaction our primary focus.
The Otsego Club is a special place where lifelong friendships are made among our members. Many of us have spent the greater part of our lives in Gaylord, Michigan – skiing, eating, socializing and spending time with our families and friends. During the coming season, there will be changes to the Club. However, this place is, and will remain, the Otsego Club that you have grown to love through the years. As we turn the page into this new era, we will hold onto the core values and experiences that have made the Otsego Club special, while at the same time adapting to the changing needs of our members.
Please join us in supporting the future of our Otsego Club. We look forward to spending time with all of you this upcoming ski season!
Very truly yours,
Roger Mali and Ryan Niles
Ryan Niles Background:
My parents first introduced me to the Otsego Club when I was 5 years old and the Otsego Club has been an integral part of my life ever since. Just as my parents did for me, as soon as they were old enough to ski (possibly earlier if you ask my wife), I introduced my daughters, Avery and Ashley, to the wonders of the Otsego Club. They too quickly fell in love with the skiing, the friends, the ski school, and of course, the hot cocoa. In addition to being a member for more than 31 years, a dear friend to many of us, and mentor to me, Hugo Bohm got me involved with the ski school over 22 years ago. I have been involved in the operations of the Club ever since. I have also been involved in the Slopes and Trails and the Members Liaison Committees.
A little about the “downstate” me:
I graduated from Michigan State University in 1998 with a BS in Pre-Med trying to deviate from the family painting business, Genesee Painting Co formed in 1958 by my uncle / grandfather. In 2002, I formed Niles Industrial Coatings, and shortly after my father joined as my business partner. We are currently working in 8 states and various industries such as, US Steel, GM, Caterpillar, AEP, Dow Chemical, John Deere, Miller Brewing, and many others. I also invested in SMS-Assist in 2003, which utilizes technology to service retailers with multi locations for all facility service needs. This company is very exciting due to its tremendous growth and cutting edge technology. I currently spend time focusing on sales growth with this company as well. I recently became a member of Motor City Chapter of Young Presidents’ Organization.
I married my high school sweetheart Kimberly in 2000 and have two beautiful girls, Avery 5 and Ashley 4. We live on Silver Lake in Fenton allowing for summers of lake activities for the family.
